Gold Medal & Best Show Garden Chatsworth 2018

Handspring Design are delighted to have been involved with this winning project at RHS Chatsworth 2018. The garden was designed by Phil Hirst and took as its theme the Great Outdoors. Based on a walk in the peaks around Sheffield the garden had woodland, peat bog and meadow all represented using readily available plants. The landscaping was done by Garden Style and all bespoke woodworking by Handspring Design. We designed the pergola specifically for this show garden and incorporated our distinctive curved glue lams to give it that handspring look.

All timber in the garden is oak. The screens and deck are charred oak. The steps, sets, benches, pergola and water spout are all green oak. Combined with lovely honey coloured gravel and sandstone boulders the pallet of materials used truly reflects yorkshire
