As with everything that we make this was achieved while trying to be as environmentally sensitive as possible and following the principles outlined in the Sustainability Manifesto, for this project the highlights were: Footprint of whole extension was just replacing an existing deck. Structural traditional frame and triple glazed windows all made from UK FSC Douglas Fir timber. Super insulated to roof, walls and floor Almost zero waste – the bricks from the knock through and removing an outhouse where used to make the new outer skin walls, and the remaining rubble all went into the ground to make the solid floor with a minimal concrete slab on top Reusing of materials from old deck and kitchen for new build: timber from the deck used for setting out, formwork and temporary support timber joists from old kitchen floor reused as studding old kitchen units repurposed reclaimed materials used for new worktop, cladding and island reusing of appliances or specifying super eco new ones Adding in nature with a wildflower and sedum roof, including a deep valley Using local suppliers and trades people.
